Happy New Year

I would like to welcome everyone back from break.  I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing break.  This week we had a nice transition back to our school routine.  We talked about our break and all the wonderful things we did.  We made bells for 2012 and talked about what we would like to do better for the new year.

Owen had a birthday over break so we celebrated today with cupcakes and special goodie bags.  Evan wasa nominated for peacemaker and was very excited.  Good job Evan!

Next Week:
  • Jack is star student
  • J is for Jesus
  • In science, our theme is solar system/space

We are "Falling" for Pre-K

It is officially fall!  The leaves are falling, pumpkins are out, and the store shelves are filled with yummy Thanksgiving goodies.  But, in our classroom, we have been very busy learning and having fun!  This month our theme is Thanksgiving and the farm.  We have been talking about what we are thankful for and all the beautiful creations that God has given us.  This past week, we made turkey hands, corn stalks, feathers with our families, had a taste test on apple and pumpkin pie,and much, much more.

We also talked about farm animals and went on a field trip to Goebert's Farm in South Barrington.  The children watched a film on the life cycle of a pumpkin, picked out a pumpkin to take home, and visited the little farm house with tons of cute animals which was great for our theme this month.

On Friday, we celebrated Veteran's Day with a story and a short video clip on veterans.  The children sang some American songs and ate a special snack.  We have also been busy working on a play about the first Thanksgiving and singing songs for our Thanksgiving luncheon on Tuesday, November 22nd.

The children are enjoying the Rowland Reading Program.  We just finished the stories Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Bears.  It is an amazing "Hands-on" approach to learning which is a fun and interactive way to learn.

Looking Ahead.....

  • Reindeer Day
  • Santa's Workshop
  • Rowland Reading Program-The Elves and the Shoemaker
  • How do you make slime?  A science experiment
  • Present patterning

Welcome to Preschool

We have been very busy learning our rules, routine's, and our new friend's names. :) It has been a bit challenging but we are progressing very nicely.

This past week we started Rowland Reading.  Our very first story was Little Red Riding Hood.  This is my first time using this program and I think it is awesome.  It has many hands on activities that the children loved.  I look forward to what our next story brings.

Our theme this month is apples, Johnny Appleseed, and fall.  We worked on several apple activities.  Counting, matching, sorting, drawing, and painting apples. WHEW!  What a busy week we had.

On Friday, we remembered the tragedy that happened ten years ago.  We started with a small prayer and song and talked briefly about what happened on 9/11.  We made a huge American class flag, individual flags and painted with red, white and blue.

I am looking forward to working with each and every child in my class.  I am excited about what I have planned for a great but fun learning experience for your child.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at namarek11@gmail.com.

We will never forget.
